Sant Elm is a picturesque coastal village on the south western tip of the island, near Andratx and Port de Andratx, with the Tramuntana Mountains to the back and the island of Dragonera in the bay.
It is small and sleepy with a ibiza-trendy feel, a lovely blue flag beach and some great places to stop and eat. Though upmarket restaurants and boutiques have began to spill into the area, there are a few hotels and villas for rent and it has remained rempte, tranquil and true to its fishing origins.
The Serra de Tramuntana was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, under the Cultural Landscape category, in acknowledgement of the stunning symbiosis between human action and nature, carried out over the centuries, and which has resulted in a monumental work of stone terracing and water ways, merging culture, traditions, aesthetics, spirituality and identity.
Aside from its immesurable beauty and cultural value, the Serra de Tramuntana is also one of the longest and most challenging cycling routes on the island, an area that covers 1000 km2 with a 130 km mountain road. There are multiple cycle routes within the mountains with high peaks, steep gradients and dizzying descents, but if you want to attempt the entire route, you will need the help of a cycling transfer either to get you there or to bring you back.
The highest peaks in the Serra de Tramuntana are Puig Major (1,443 m), Puig de Massanella (1,348 m), Serra d’Alfàbia (1,069 m), Es Teix (1,064) and Galatzó (1,026 m).
Of Mallorca's 200 beaches, 40 have been designated the BLUE FLAG which looks at water quality as well as facilities and services, and the beach of Sant Elm is one such Blue Flag beach.
Platja de Sant Elm - 130 metres long by 30 metres wide. White sand, turquoise waters and views of neighbouring island Sa Dragonera, one of the island's many natural parks, which can be visited by local ferry, this is a BLUE FLAG beach with good services like toilets, showers, disabled access, sun shades and loungers and lifeguards.
You can swim from the beach to the tiny uninhabited island of Es Pantaleu.

There are about 16 restaurants in Sant Elm, which is a surprising number, given the location and size of the place. The range is varied and vast, with cafes, vbars, gastropubs, trattorias and restaurants serving Asian, Mediterranean, Spanish, Italian, Vegetarian, Vegan, Polish, Tapas and Seafood specialities, in town and along the coast, some with exceptional views.
Possibly the loveliest harbour in the Mediterranean, Port Andratx or Port d’Andratx is a 40 minute drive from Palma de Mallorca Airport, and one of the island’s most upmarket residential areas, home to a bohemian mix of part time residents, yachties and locals.
Parking in Sant Elm...
In the peak summer season parking is difficult all over the island and especially at the more popular tourist spots, Sant Elm does have a small parking lot, but if you want us to take care of logistics and let you concentrate fully on your cycling, then opt for a Mallorca cycling transfer to the town and bike back across the Tramuntana.
